Hair Growth Cycle

The hair growth cycle is a continuous process of growth, rest, and shedding that occurs in every hair follicle on your body. It consists of four distinct phases, each playing a critical role in the length, density, and health of your hair.

    • Duration: 2 to 7 years (or longer)

    • What happens:
This is the active growth phase, where hair cells rapidly divide, and the hair strand grows approximately 1 cm per month.

    • Percentage of hairs in this phase: ~85–90%

    • Notes:
The length of this phase determines how long your hair can grow. Genetics, age, health, and hormones influence its duration.

    • Duration: 2 to 3 weeks

    • What happens:
Hair growth stops, and the follicle shrinks, detaching from the blood supply. The hair becomes a "club hair."

    • Percentage of hairs in this phase: ~1–2%

    • Notes:
This is a short transitional phase that signals the end of active growth.

    • Duration: 3 to 4 months

    • What happens:
The hair follicle remains inactive, and the hair stays in place but no longer grows. New hairs begin forming underneath.

    • Percentage of hairs in this phase: ~10–15%

    • Notes:
Stress, illness, or hormonal shifts can push more hairs into this resting phase (known as telogen effluvium).

    • Duration: A few days to weeks

    • What happens:
The old hair is shed to make way for the new hair growing underneath.

    • Normal shedding: ~50–100 hairs/day

    • Notes:
Hair shedding is normal, but excessive loss may indicate an imbalance in the cycle.

Hair Growth Phase What Happens in This Phase How PRP GFC Helps
1. Anagen (Growth Phase) Hair is actively growing and nourished by blood supply ✅ Delivers concentrated growth factors (like PDGF, VEGF, IGF-1) directly to the follicle.
✅ Stimulates stem cells and dermal papilla activit
✅ Leads to faster onset and potentially more sustained anagen phase than traditional PRP
2. Catagen (Transition Phase) Hair stops growing; follicle shrinks and detaches from blood supply. ✅ Growth factors can more significantly delay or interrupt catagen transition, preserving the hair in the growing (anagen) stage longer.
✅ Promotes re-entry into anagen more efficiently.
3. Telogen (Resting Phase) Follicle rests; hair remains in place but isn't growing. ✅ The high concentration of growth factors accelerates reactivation of telogen follicles
✅ Better triggers the early anagen restart, especially in androgenic alopecia
4. Exogen (Shedding Phase) Old hair is shed to make room for new growth. ✅ PRP can accelerate the return to anagen, minimizing prolonged shedding
✅ Supports faster regeneration of new hairs post-shed
✅ Stronger anti-apoptotic effects (prevents follicle death).

Hair PRP GFC Works by Injecting Concentrated Platelets from your own blood into the scalp. These platelets release:

  • PDGF (Platelet-Derived Growth Factor)

    stimulates cell growth and repair

  • VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor)

promotes formation of new blood vessels, improving blood supply to hair follicles

  • EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor)

supports regeneration of skin and hair follicle cells

  • FGF (Fibroblast Growth Factor)

helps with the proliferation of dermal papilla cells, which are vital for hair growth

  • TGF-β (Transforming Growth Factor Beta)

    regulates inflammation and cell differentiation

  • IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor 1)

encourages hair follicle development and growth

🌿 What to Expect Over Time with Hair PRP GFC

    • Mild redness, tenderness, or swelling at injection sites (resolves in 1–2 days)

    • Hair shedding may temporarily increase (a natural reset phase)

    • No visible hair growth yet—cells are just starting to activate

    • Reduction in hair fall

    • Scalp may feel healthier, with better texture and circulation

    • Some clients notice new “baby hairs” starting to emerge

    • Noticeable improvement in hair density and thickness in treated areas

    • Continued growth of new hair shafts

    • Hair looks fuller and stronger
